PIDP 3260 - What’s Next on the Learning Journey?

The question asked, is what learning activities I might want to look at next? Well, that is a dangerous topic; I want to do it all.

My timeline for completing the PIDP program has recently been extended to adjust to personal circumstances. This comes with positives and negatives, and one of the positives to removing the hard push I had previously planned for quick program completion means that I now have leisure for exploration.

Several PIDP courses have included content on Pulling Together: A Guide for Curriculum Developers:

...developed as part of a Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training initiative to create open educational resources to support Indigenization at post-secondary institutions in British Columbia
— Antione et al

The guide includes readings, videos, curriculum work, activities and and self-reflections, which are anticipated to take between 20 and 25 hours to complete. It also encourages an undetermined amount of time to build relationships and connections within our institution and the community. So, I have been contemplating whether this could be undertaken as part of PIDP 3401 - a 45 hour, 1 credit course on Independent Studies. I am still missing PIDP 3240 as a prerequisite, but once that is complete I could look at this as a study opportunity in 2026. The course has an assigned instructor and course dates the same as any other in the PIDP program, although I would expect some discussion of course content would have to be ironed out with the instructor.

As for the remainder of my professionally related learning activities, well, that is exactly what I have been contemplating. I have recently retired from a 35 year career and am not yet working within an institution as a teacher. My perfect world would see me doing something like instructing these on-line courses at VCC. I need to build the connections that will achieve that. I have started looking into the networking opportunities that would be needed, but there are some considerations I would want to look at before publishing a planned list on the internet :).

Finally, I already have some pretty varied degrees under my belt, and as a life-long learner I likely will continue taking education. My biggest challenge to pursuing a PHD is deciding the field. While I continue to form those longer term ambitions, for now I will focus on just enjoying the journey as I navigate through this PIDP program.

So, while I consider the road forward, this PIDP 3260 blog portion of the learning journey comes to an end. Thanks for travelling the road with me, and may we cross paths again in future.
