PIDP 3260 - And now…for a personal moment…

It’s week 6, and we have a bit of a different discussion today. Ahhh…don’t we all just love putting it all out there for everyone to see? Well, here goes today’s challenge…what do I want to be when I grow up?

Or…more to the point, what is my vision of where I would like to be in the next 5 years as an instructor?

No later than Fall 2027 and through to the remainder of the next 5 years, I want to be a part-time post-secondary instructor providing classes and seminars on-line (anywhere) or in-person at local institutions, specializing in leadership, executive management, tactical & strategic planning and business operations.

How will I get there?

1. Qualify as a post-secondary instructor by completing the PIDP program for Spring of 2027

2. Establish my expertise and reputation in my specialties

  • bring forward the extensive experience and training I have from my military career, plus my MBA and experience in business leadership.

  • ensure a presence and reputation of excellence with established people in the field. Seek networking opportunities, conferences, and information interviews with experts and institutions. Build an online presence through tools like LinkedIn. Ensure my work - like in the PIDP program - stands out as an example of my capacity and expertise.

  • build my own programming. Use PIDP courses and the Capstone program to develop courses and curriculum in my specialties that I can draw on for future.

  • continue my own ongoing learning. Stay current through podcasts, online resources, reading materials, etc. Develop technological skills including social media and video creation.

3. Develop my own strategic plan, with implementation in Spring 2027

  • conduct a needs analysis. Look to where my skills would be a match for programs, courses, etc. Identify any gaps and obtain the relevant training/skills/experience.

  • build a resume that demonstrates how my skills and experience meet needs.

  • identify and reach out to institutions that would be a good match. This can include school boards, colleges, universities, and also organizations that serve first responders like the Justice Institute, fire department etc.

  • build field practice and gateway opportunities. Look for opportunities to present at conferences, sessionals, retraining programs, volunteer programs, non-profits, etc.

Well, that’s the plan at any rate. I guess for now I will keep on working on step # 1 to complete the PIDP :)

Thanks for dropping in, and we will chat again soon!
